Born Johannesburg, South Africa - 14 February 1968
History I started rod fishing at the age of 4 with my dad, Ken, and my brother, Sean. This was the start of a life long quest to seek out and capture anything with fins and a tail!

My dad being a ski-boat angler was a bonus as this meant we made regular trips to Zululand and the fishing was wild in those days! We moved from Gauteng to the Natal south coast when I was 10 - I immediately put my head under the water and haven't looked back since!

As my Mom was a little wary of me playing with a rubber powered speargun, I didn't own one until I was 13, but not for lack of begging her relentlessly for years!

Until then, my best mate Ken and I made hand held spears from wire coathangers (seriously!) and although these were a little fragile, with only a tiny barb cut into the wire with a hacksaw, we did manage to hand spear loads of really small fish called pinkies! But we wanted bigger and better!

After one really good shad season (the natal boys will know what this means) I managed to get my hands on a 0.75 mm champion gun from a local sports shop, which I duly tested on a few trees on the way home. Yeah, this was the big time! To cut a long story short, Ken and I got into the water at Chain Rocks, Amanzimtoti and it wasn't long before I had a ray on the end (the first and only one I've ever tagged) and on grabbing the spear got a shock that jolted the living $&%£ out of my arm!

And the rest is history.
Places  spearfished As a dedicated spearfisherman it would only be natural to travel to all those far away places where the possibility of seeing and bagging a few large palagics makes the roads and tracks on the way there seem like 3 lane highways! (If only they looked like that on the way back!). Over the years I’ve dived some of the most remote places in South Africa as well as Mozambique, Eastern and Western Australia, England, Ireland and the Caribbean.
Rob Allen  Association Having spearfished for a living for a number of glorious years and going through gear on a weekly basis, it was only a matter of time before Rob and I crossed paths. I heard of "this man who made really good spears" somewhere up in the hills of Pinetown and Rob has been manufacturing, developing and distributing good spearfishing equipment for a number of years now.

Rob Allen Association  My 1st ever quality speargun was one of Rob's original 1.4m's with bare Aliminium Barrel and 7mm Stainless Spear. I have never looked back and used these guns from 50cm to 1.6m in the Sea / Freshwater situations. I find them to be totally accurate and reliable. Recently I travelled spearfishing for a year with a 1.2m Sniper Turbo gun and 3 spears. I never replaced anything except the bridles and cut the rubbers shorter. The spears have excellent "memory" and the only ones I lost were lost by "user fault". I shot a lot of fish over the year.
